Lifetime Gets Funny With "Rita Rocks"

While Lifetime Television may be known for its quality dramatic movies and television shows, they know a good comedy when they see one. And "Rita Rocks" looks like the kind of comedy that will have audiences falling out of their chairs. Premiering this fall, the series stars Nicole Sullivan, Richard Ruccolo and Tisha Campbell-Martin .

In "Rita Rocks," Sullivan stars as Rita, an overworked wife and mother in the middle of a full blown identity crisis. Trying to maintain romance with her husband Jay (Richard Ruccolo), juggling the demands of her nine-year-old daughter Shannon (Kelly Gould), disciplining her defiant, teenage daughter Hallie and her ever-present boyfriend Kip (Raviv Ullman), and being passed over for a promotion at work; Rita is at her wit's end. In search of "youthful" Rita, she dusts off her old guitar and forms a garage band with her nosey postal carrier Patty (Tisha Campbell-Martin) and unemployed neighbor Owen (guest-star Ian Gomez), in the hopes of putting that spark back in her life.

Nicole Sullivan most recently starred as Holly in the CBS sitcom, "The King of Queens." She is also well-known for her work on the FOX sketch comedy show, "MADtv," in which she starred from 1995-2001. Her numerous television guest appearances include such shows as "CSI" "Scrubs," "Law & Order: SVU," "Monk" and "According to Jim." In addition, Sullivan lends her voice talents to the animated television "Kim Possible," "Family Guy" and "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command."

Richard Ruccolo is best known for his role as Pete Dunville in the ABC comedy "Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place," later renamed "Two Guys and a Girl." His television guest-starring roles include "Reba," "Less Than Perfect," "Always Sunny in Philadelphia," "Joey," "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "The X Files." Ruccolo has appeared in the feature films "Obsessed," "All Over the Guy," "The One," "Anacardium" and "Available Men."

Tisha Campbell-Martin starred in the sitcoms "My Wife and Kids" and "Martin." Her feature film credits include "School Daze," "Another 48 Hours," "House Party," "House Party 2," "House Party 3" and "Boomerang." Campbell has made numerous guest appearances on television shows such as "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch," "Roc," "Blossom," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and "A Different World." Campbell's first television series was "Rags to Riches" for NBC in which she starred in 1987.

Double the Stamos: John Stamos to Star In and Produce Lifetime Original Movie

Double the John Stamos, double the fun! Stamos ("ER") is set to star in and produce the Lifetime Original Movie "Killing Mr. Kissel" , based on the shocking true story of two multi-millionaire brothers who both married the women of their dreams and wound up dead. "Killing Mr. Kissel" will premiere this November on Lifetime Television.

In making the announcement Tanya Lopez, Senior Vice President, Original Movies, Lifetime Networks, said, "People are fascinated by the private lives of the rich and there is a part of all of us that wants to have the lifestyle that money brings." She added, "While entertaining, this story -- about one family's quest for the American dream that spiraled out of control - also reminds us to ‘be careful what you wish for."

In "Killing Mr. Kissel," real estate mogul Andrew Kissel (Stamos) marries sporty blond ski instructor, Hayley Wolff (Gretchen Egolf, "Journeyman"), while his younger brother Rob Kissel (Anson Mount, "Conviction"), a New York investment banker, marries social climber Nancy Keeshin (Robin Tunney). On the surface, it seems that both the Kissel brothers are starting idyllic families. After Rob moves his family to Hong Kong for a promotion, Nancy grows to resent his long work hours. In retaliation, Nancy begins a torrid affair and ultimately kills Rob by drugging him and bludgeoning him to death, igniting worldwide media frenzy. Years later, Andrew is caught embezzling millions of dollars to support his increasingly lavish lifestyle and drug addiction. With the courts breathing down his neck, former business partners turning on him, and a frustrated and embarrassed wife filing for divorce, Andrew is found dead in the basement of his Greenwich mansion. The question remains: was Andrew murdered by one of his many enemies, or did he arrange it himself in order to escape his living nightmare?

John Stamos is a successful actor/producer with a career that has spanned more than 25 years. Currently, he can be seen in the long-running NBC drama "ER" as Dr. Tony Gates. Stamos most recently starred in the television films "A Raisin in the Sun" and "Wedding Wars." For eight seasons, he starred as Uncle Jesse on the popular television series "Full House." He was also the lead character in the television series, "Jake in Progress" and "Thieves" and started his career on the ABC daytime series "General Hospital." Stamos has many television projects in the works, including the TV Movie "Baby Love" for TNT. Additional producing credits include an Emmy nomination in 2000 for co-producing the ABC miniseries "Beach Boys: An American Family" and the highly rated CBS telefilm "Martin & Lewis." In 1995, he made his Broadway debut in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," and in 2000, he starred in "Cabaret." His film credits include the independent features, "Dropping Out," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2000, "Grownups," "I am Stamos" and "Knots."

Robin Tunney has appeared in numerous feature films including "Hollywoodland" with Ben Affleck, "The Craft," "Niagara Niagara," "Cherish" and "The Burning Plain." She recently starred in the Fox television series "Prison Break." Other television credits include "House," "The Twilight Zone," "Riders of the Purple Sage," "Law & Order" and "Life Goes On." This fall, she co-stars in the CBS series "The Mentalist" with Simon Baker.

Mena Suvari and Matthew Modine Get Caught Up In "Sex and Lies in Sin City"

Mena Suvari ("American Beauty") and Matthew Modine ("Weeds") are set to star in the Lifetime Original Movie "Sex & Lies in Sin City", based on the true story of the death of wealthy Las Vegas casino heir Ted Binion and the ensuing trial of his lover and her con artist boyfriend. The movie is based on the book Murder in Sin City by Jeff German. "Sex & Lies in Sin City," will premiere on Lifetime in September.

"Much like a trip to Vegas, this movie is a guilty pleasure," said Tanya Lopez, senior vice president, Original Movies, Lifetime Networks, in making the announcement. "Ripped from the headlines, 'Sex & Lies in Sin City' captures all of the true crime story elements and the madness that surrounded Ted Binion's life."

"Sex & Lies in Sin City" tells the story of the death of reckless casino executive Ted Binion (Modine), heir to the Binion Horseshoe Casino fortune. In September, 1998, Binion was found dead in his Las Vegas home by his beautiful ex-stripper girlfriend Sandy Murphy (Suvari). On the surface, it appears Binion died of a self-induced drug overdose, as he regularly abused illicit drugs. However, questions arise when Ted's younger estranged sister Becky Binion tells police she believes her brother was murdered. Meanwhile, police discover that Murphy, who met Binion after first coming to Las Vegas in search of a better life, was cheating on him and that 24 hours before his death, Binion had Murphy removed from his will. Also, within hours of the suspicious death, Murphy's lover, Rick Tabish, was caught trying to steal Binion's hidden silver bullion in the Nevada desert. Ultimately, a scandalous trial sheds light on the astonishing greed that culminated in the death of one of the Desert Oasis' most notorious men.

Mena Suvari is best known for her role in the Academy Award-winning film "American Beauty" for which she was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. Other acting credits include "Factory Girl," "Brooklyn Rules," "Rumor Has It," "Domino," "Beauty Shop," "Sonny," "Spun," "American Pie" and "American Pie 2." Suvari was also a recurring character in the critically acclaimed HBO series "Six Feet Under."

Matthew Modine is an acting veteran with more than 50 films to his credit including "Birdy," "Married to the Mob," "Vision Quest," "Full Metal Jacket," "Orphans," "Pacific Heights" and "On Any Given Sunday," to name a few. He won a special Golden Globe Award for his work in the ensemble cast of "Short Cuts." "Living Proof" That Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr. will team

Emmy® and Grammy® Award winner Harry Connick, Jr. ("Will & Grace," "Hope Floats") and Academy Award®-winning actress Renee Zellweger ("Cold Mountain," "Chicago")will join forces on the new Lifetime Original Movie "Living Proof," the moving true story of Dr. Denny Slamon, the UCLA doctor who developed the life saving breast cancer drug, Herceptin 2, and his relentless battle to keep the drug trials afloat and save the lives of thousands of women. Singer/actor Connick will star in the film, while Zellweger reteams with acclaimed film and television producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron ("A Raisin in the Sun," "Hairspray," "Chicago," "Life with Judy Garland: Me & My Shadows") to executive produce the Sony Pictures Television project.

Harry Connick, Jr. is a singer, pianist, composer, actor and humanitarian. His career has been highlighted with awards and recognition, including several multi-platinum and gold albums, Grammy® and Emmy® Awards, plus Tony Award® nominations. Connick made his film debut in 1990 in the drama "Memphis Belle." His additional films credit since include "Little Man Tate," "Copycat," "Independence Day," "Hope Floats" with Sandra Bullock, "My Dog Skip," "Life Without Dick," "Bug" and more recently "P.S. I Love You" with Hillary Swank. In 2001, he starred in the ABC television production of "South Pacific." Renee Zellweger won the Academy Award® for Best Supporting Actress in Anthony Minghella's "Cold Mountain" and received Academy Award® nominations for her work in "Bridget Jones's Diary" and "Chicago." She recently starred in and executive-produced the feature film, "Miss Potter."

Author Patricia Cornwell Comes to Lifetime

In a ground-breaking agreement, Lifetime Television will become the first network ever to adapt acclaimed international author Patricia Cornwell’s novels for television. Her #1 New York Times bestseller, "At Risk," and its sequel, "The Front," to be published by G. P. Putnam’s Sons in May, have been optioned by the Network.

Valerie Bertinelli to star in "True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet"

Lifetime leading lady Valerie Bertinelli is making a return to the network in the new Lifetime Original Movie, "True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet." As a former child star herself, Bertinelli is familiar with the highs and lows of running with a fast crowd at an early age. Bertinelli stars as the aunt of a teen starlet (played by pop star Joanna 'JoJo' Levesque)who comes to live with her aunt after a stint in rehab. The movie, directed by Lifetime leading man Tim Matheson, is set to air in 2008.
